Time for Apple Pie

I have tried pies at a million bakeries around Los Angeles, but the reigning champion isn't served at a bakery.  It's at Jones in West Hollywood.  Jones, an Italian restaurant and bar, is the type of hangout that attracts hot young singles for late night eats and cocktails.  But when I showed up a few nights ago, of course, it was just for dessert.

There's usually per-person minimum if you want a table, so I asked the waiter if I would be allowed to order just dessert.  He knowingly smiled and showed my friend and me to a booth.  We asked for Jones' Famous Apple Pie and waited excitedly.  This monstrous slice of pie comes out on a hot iron skillet, adding to its intrigue.  I highly recommend ordering it with ice cream for this reason- it's still so hot when it arrives at your table, and you will want to dig in immediately.

I have to assume Jones uses green apples for this recipe, because the apples have just the right amount of tart flavor, but I get just enough sweet as well.  They are perfectly cooked so as not to be mushy.  And the crust.  Oh my, the crust. It's sinfully buttery with a flaky texture and it just melts in your mouth.  You'll be just as happy with a mouthful of the crust as with a mouthful of the apples.  Yet as delightful as the crust is, it still lets the apples sing.

I recommend bringing a pal to Jones and sharing this treat after dinner and drinks. Just make sure you've saved room for dessert.

Welcome!

First, I would like to thank you for checking out my blog. I will be writing to share with everyone the delicious joy of everything sweet. Wherever I go, my mission is to sample local desserts and sugary snacks, including well-known favorites and hidden gems.

I will be writing about cakes, pies, cookies, cupcakes, chocolates, and everything in between. I welcome suggestions for new yummy offerings to try.

I hope I inspire you to try a few the creations I write about- and maybe to create some of your own!
